Help a parent of a dog with cancer when you purchase Chewy’s Vodka

About Chewy

Chewy was my rescue Pit Bull and he was amazing. Chewy wasn't just a pet; he was my loyal friend, my family, and my constant companion. As the only one waiting for me at home, you can imagine the devastation I felt when I received the news of Chewy's cancer.

My world stopped, but what was even worse was wondering how I would pay for his treatment. I literally spent weeks and hundreds of hours on the computer looking for some kind of financial help when I came across several wonderful nonprofit organizations; and fortunately, one of them was Miranda’s People. So with their help, and that of some extraordinary people, I was able to pay for Chewy’s treatments. Sadly, although Chewy fought his best fight, he lost his battle. From that day forward, I promised to help these wonderful nonprofits raise the funding they need in order to help other pet parents in my situation. Whether it’s a veteran with a service animal, or a senior citizen who has no one else to come home to, their dogs are their lifelines. We should all remember that dogs don’t care about our past, our status, the money we make, or the things we possess.

Dogs will give up their lives for us, if they have to, but they will always love us because they want to, not because they have to. They provide what we all seek –unconditional love.

The cost of canine cancer treatment…

….is on average $4,750. It ranges between $3,000 and $10,000; with veterinarian bills climbing even higher in some cases. Individual therapy doses can be as low as $150 or as high as $600.

It is estimated that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer, and 50% of those dogs will succumb to the illness. The good news is, just as with humans, treatment is the key to survival. The average cost, however, puts it out of reach for many dog owners.

Approximately 45% of households own dogs. A third of our yearly budget dedicated to our pets goes to their medical bills.

We can easily see how all of this would put a strain on lower-income households, sometimes consisting of a single dog owner. The elderly, veterans, or anyone with an emotional support animal, are the most likely to have no means to help their dogs when they need them the most.

Miranda's People® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps dogs with cancer by providing financial assistance to dog owners who can't afford treatment.

The organization was named after Bruce and Noreen Berra's Golden Retriever, Miranda, who had cancer when she was 6-years-old. Even though it was devastating news, Miranda received treatment and lived to be over 10 years old. As an 8-year cancer survivor, Noreen understood that a cancer diagnosis isn't always hopeless, but treatment is expensive. Many dog owners would have to give up their beloved pets because they couldn't afford treatment; and so, Miranda’s People was born.
